Halsall Navvy by Thompson Dagnall on the Leeds/Liverpool canal at Halsall, West Lancs. A £20,000 stone carving on the site of the first sod cut for the canal on the 5th November 1770 by Col. Mordaunt. Statue unveiled 2006 to commemorate the work of the predominantly Irish "Navvies" (Navigators) on this the longest canal in Britain.
